Many agricultural retailers rent equipment that may later be sold, such as feed wagons, creep feeders, bulk bins, seed tenders, and nurse trailers. Currently these items must be managed either as inventory items or fixed assets, making it difficult to track the full lifecycle profitability of each individual unit.
Allowing inventory items to function as individual equipment units tied to a parent SKU would allow businesses to track rental income, depreciation, and resale value while still managing the equipment within the normal inventory and sales workflow.
Each unit could track information such as original purchase cost, accumulated rental income, current renter, availability status, depreciation value, and suggested resale price. Additional features such as rent-to-own tracking and rental history per unit would allow businesses to track the full profitability of each piece of equipment over time.
A detailed proposal outlining possible implementation options and considerations is attached.

What problem does this Idea solve?
Businesses that rent equipment which may later be sold currently must track rental income, depreciation, and equipment availability manually outside the system. This makes it difficult to see the full financial performance of each unit. Supporting equipment units within inventory would allow businesses to track rental revenue, lifecycle value, and resale pricing while maintaining normal sales workflows. |
